Welcome to the Counselor’s Corner at Mattison Avenue.  My name is Donna Wolfert and I am the school counselor.  The information on this site will acquaint you with the services and programs offered through guidance at Mattison Avenue.  I am looking forward to working with your children and with each of you.  Please contact me any time I may be of assistance to you.  I welcome your input.  Through cooperation we can help ensure a rewarding school year for your student.

Counseling

What does a school counselor do at an elementary school?  I am involved in a variety of ways, but most importantly, in working with students, teachers and parents at Mattison Avenue.  During the school year, I am available to you child on a short-term individual basis.  Appointments can be made by calling the guidance office, sending a note via your child’s teacher or your child can contact me directly.  I work with students in a variety of group or club configurations depending on the needs presented by the students.  Typical topics are friendship, social skills, anger management and self-esteem.  The goal is to bring children together to share, support and learn.  Permission signed by a parent or guardian is necessary for participation.

Classroom

I have the opportunity to work with each one of our students through developmental guidance lessons for approximately ten lessons per class.  The lessons are based on a curriculum reflecting standards set forth at the national level.  It centers around three domains:  academic, career, and personal social

Child Study Team/WIN

The Child Study Team is a vehicle for bringing together school staff and parents/guardians to develop pre-referral intervention strategies to meet the needs of students and teachers.  The process consists of assessment and intervention procedures that are used to assure that students receive an effective instructional program, as well as other school services, to meet their learning needs.

I have found that student academic, emotional and social successes are achieved when all individuals working with that child are in communication with each other and working toward common goals.  Keeping the lines of communication open between myself, parents and teachers is a priority of mine.  If you have any questions, thoughts or concerns during the school year, please call or email me.  I can be reached at 215-619-8104 ext. 2427 or at dwolfert@wsd.k12.pa.us.
